He was a lifelong sailor having won the Interlake Sailing Class Association National Championships three years in a row. He continued sailing and boating most of his life. He was a past commodore and life member of the Sandusky Sailing Club and a life member of the Interlake Sailing Class. He also served several years as a USYRU judge. He was owner and president of KelKo Products Company of Sandusky until his retirement in 1981. He was a recipient of the "Nick Of Time Award" for saving the lives of two ice fishermen who had fallen through the ice on Sandusky Bay.

Bob retired from Tiffin University in maintenance and later from Tiffin Ace Hardware. Bob was a loving family man who doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to travel, especially through the Smoky Mountains. Bob was a devoted Christian and led Bible study at Seneca County Jail for 10 years. He would do anything for anybody, even if they just needed to talk. Bob was a 32nd degree Mason. He joined Free Masons in 1971 as a Master Mason. He earned the title of "Excellent Companion" at Tiffin Lodge in 2016 and also earned the title "Sir Knight Robert A. Bauer" in 2017.
